February 16 Septuagesima Sunday

Rehearsal at 2 pm in the kitchen

Women first half of Mass (MM cantor)

Men second half of Mass (DP cantor)

As a reminder, you are encouraged and welcome to join singing the propers but please spend some time during the week going over them at home so that you are well prepared to sing at Mass. This helps incredibly with achieving the "single voice" quality of the chants.

Ordinaries: Asperges Me, Mass XVII or Mass XI (Father is going to confirm which Ordinaries before Sunday but there is definitely not a Gloria), Creed I

Introit: Circumdederunt me gemitus mortis pdf and video

Gradual: Adjutor in opportunitatibus pdf and video

Tract: De profundis clamavi ad te Domine pdf and video

Offertory: Bonum est confiteri Domino pdf and video

Communion: Illumina faciem tuam pdf with verses and video

Ad libitum: let's review Voce Mea for offertory (here are links to rehearsal tracks). I'll be handing out a new piece Ubi Caritas which is a unison chant with SATB for the refrain. For recessional we'll sing Ave Regina Caelorum, either the unison chant (see top menu bar) or the motet depending on available voices. Here is the link for the motet rehearsal video.

As Father mentioned in his homily on Sunday, we are now entering that time just before Lent, sometimes referred to as "pre-lent" in a tongue and cheek kind of way. Here is an article from the Catholic Encyclopedia regarding this unique liturgical season. Here is another article about the custom of "burying the alleluia" before Septuagesima.
